Synonyms for Love - Valentine's Day
Another lesson in honor of Valentine's Day. This lesson demonstrates how knowing synonyms for common words can enrich your vocabulary, giving you greater accuracy and variety.
Level: High intermediate to advanced.
Valentine’s Day is on Feb. 14th. On this holiday we celebrate the people that we love and care for. I can show you some of the Valentine’s Day gifts that I prepared.
My son will be giving these kinds of Valentine’s Day cards to his friends.
And I helped him makes a special Valentine’s Day card for his teachers and baby sitter. This is a card for his baby sitter and small box of chocolates.
And we made these kinds of cards for his teachers and also get small box of chocolates. I prepared a special gift for one of my neighbors because she’s so very kind to us.
She gets a card and a box of chocolates.
Now we can say that we love our neighbors, we love our teachers, we love our friends, but the truth is we love these people in different ways. In this lesson, I want to talk about other words we can use for love, synonyms for love, but also talk about the small differences among these words.
Listen as I read sentences below, I’d like you to think of the words that we could use in place of love.
One synonym for love is “admire”.
We don’t just admire people. We also admire things.
For example, [see screen and listen Jennifer].
If you’re studying with partner, you can take turns asking and answering the questions.
If you’re studying by yourself, you can always practice by writing down your answers.
Again listen as I read the sentences below and I want you to think of yet another word we could use in place of love.
A second synonym for love is “cherish.”
A second synonym for love is “adore.”
Exercise4, now let’s see how well you understood all three synonyms for love. Read the statement and decide if it is true or false.
remember admire has to do with respect and appreciation.
There can be distance between person or thing you admire. You can admire something objectively.
Exercise 5, read the statement once and I’ll tell you the answer.
That’s all for lesson.
Thanks for watching and happy Valentine’s Day!
