Hi, my name is Valen, and this lesson is expressions about ‘Love’.  So we gonna do about seven common everyday expressions you’re gonna hear about love and relationships.  And our first one is

 

Hit it off:

What the expression to ‘hit it off’ means when two people meet each other, and likes each other right away, you can say: They hit it off!  So here is an example in sentence.  Mary and Tom met at a party last week and hit it off.  So this means Mary and Tom met at a party last week and like each other right away.  The next expression is

 

’hit on someone’

Please stop hitting on me when I study.

Whenever John goes a singles bar, girls can’t stop hitting on him.

 

On the rocks:

Sp what this expression means is if two people are in the relationship, and you can say the relationship is on the rocks.  It means that there relationship is not going well, and maybe they might break up, so we can us it in a sentence this way: My relationship with my husband is on the rocks.  So things aren’t going well in My relationship with my husband that’s what on the rock means.  Our next express is

 

The road is little rocky! = The road is little bumpy!

My relationship with my wife has been little bit rocky, but down the road thing’s gonna be getting out of the rocks. 

 

Pop the question:

So what the pop the question means is to ask someone to marry you.  So we can use it in a sentence like this:  I really love my girl friend and I am going to pop the question, meaning I really love my girlfriend and am gonna ask her to marry me. 

 

He asked me to get dressed up nicely tonight and come to the Café Rosebella. 

Are you thinking what I am thinking?

Yes, I think he’s gonna finally pop the question after 5 years of relationship ….

Tie the knot:

So after you pop the question, you tied the knot, which means get married.  Here’s how you can use it in a sentence: Last week my friend and his girlfriend tied the knot.  So it means last week my friend and his girlfriend got married.  Our next expression is to

 

Fall head over heels:

What this means is to fall in love with somebody usually really really quickly and infatuated with them.  So for example: We fell head over heels for each other, which quite simply means we fell in love.  The next expression is

 

Puppy love: 

So what puppy love means is in some infatuation, which means two young people or two teenagers and in sort of way to, sort of, so to say it’s not that serious, just puppy love.  So for example: Don’t worry, it’s only puppy love.  So maybe your mother is worried because her daughter’s spending a lot of time with her new boyfriend, and maybe to cough in the mother some say to her, Don’t worry, it’s only puppy love, which means it’s a sort of short term infatuation between two young people.  Ok and last expression about love is

 

Settle down:

Which means get married and sort of established a routine married life.  It seems to use it in this way.  So something, sometimes parents and grand parents would ask you is when are you going to settle down?, which means when are you gonna get married and establish adult life of routine married life, get a job, that sort of thing when are you gonna to settle down. 

 

So those are seven expressions about love!
