At 7:17 AM on the morning of June 30, 1908, a mysterious explosion occurred in the skies over Siberia. It was caused by the impact and breakup of a large meteorite, at an altitude roughly six kilometers in the atmosphere. Realistic pictures of the event are unavailable. However, Russian scientists collected eyewitness accounts of the event. I believe that we now know enough about large impacts to "decode" the subjective descriptions of the witnesses and create realistic views of this historic asteroid impact as seen from different distances.
Questions: Why was the explosion in Tunguska an extraordinary event? Because it was about 1,000 times more powerful than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan Because there were fireworks in Hiroshima, Japan The blast was something of the order of 50 Megatones of equivalent energy
Why did researchers visit the region 20 years later? Because GPS techology was not available back then Because radiation made it difficult for reasearchers to get close to the area Because of the remoteness of the Tunguska region
When did the first expedition Tunguska got to the area? In 1927 In 1987 In 1937
What was first thought about the cause of the explosion? A small black hole passing through the Earth could have caused the blast A meteorite may have caused the massive explosion The annihilation of a chunk of antimatter falling from space might have caused the explosion
What is one example provided in the video about the radiation damage that took place in the area? Humans suffering some gene damage Strong tremors observed in the area Unusual atmospheric events recorded on video camera
What did Kozintsev realize? That the Tunguska region was remote That a small black hole passing through the Earth could have caused the blast The explosion patterns in both Hiroshima and Tunguska were quite similar
What conclusion did Kozintsev arrive to? The explosion had to have been caused by the crash of a nuclear power alien spacecraft A small black hole passing through the Earth must have caused the blast Radiation made it difficult for researchers to get close to the area
What is true about the explosion in Tunguska? Radiation made it difficult for researchers to get close to the area Up to these days scientific explanations do not satisfy ufologists The mystery can easily be explained by scientists
